Connect an assistant

This page covers connecting Skillsail to Claude from its connectors directory, to ChatGPT from the public Skillsail plugin listing, and the manual MCP setup used by Cursor and other compatible clients.

You do not need a Skillsail account before you start. When you connect, a Skillsail sign-in window opens where you can sign in or create an account, and Skillsail sets up your workspace automatically.

What you'll need

• A client that can connect: Claude, ChatGPT, or another client that supports online MCP connections. Workspace policies may limit who can add connectors or plugins.
• A Skillsail account, or a few seconds to create one during the connection flow.

Connect Skillsail in Claude

Skillsail is listed in Claude's connectors directory, so there is no manual setup: you connect it with a few clicks, on any Claude plan. In Claude Team and Enterprise workspaces, an owner may need to enable the connector first.

1. Open the Skillsail listing

   Go straight to the Skillsail listing in Claude's connectors directory. You can also browse to it inside Claude: open Settings, go to the Connectors section, then choose to add a connector. The + button in the chat input works too: hover over Connectors and select Manage connectors.

2. Connect Skillsail

   Click Connect on the Skillsail listing. If you browsed the directory yourself, search for Skillsail first.

3. Sign in or create your account

   A Skillsail sign-in window opens. Sign in with your existing account, or create a new one right there. New accounts get a workspace set up automatically, so there is nothing to prepare beforehand. If your account belongs to more than one organization, choose the workspace you want Claude to use.

4. Verify the connection

   Ask Claude, "Are you connected to Skillsail?" or "List my Skillsail modules." A working connection confirms access or returns your modules.

Connect Skillsail in ChatGPT

The Skillsail plugin is available from its public ChatGPT listing, so the standard setup does not require developer mode or a connection address. In ChatGPT workspaces, an administrator may still control which plugins or apps members can use.

1. Open the Skillsail plugin listing

   Go straight to the Skillsail plugin listing in ChatGPT.

2. Add the plugin

   Use the action on the listing to add Skillsail to ChatGPT. If you are using a managed workspace, ChatGPT may ask for administrator approval.

3. Sign in and choose your organization

   Sign in with the same Skillsail account you use in the web app, or create a new account in the sign-in window. New accounts get a workspace set up automatically. If your account belongs to more than one organization, choose the workspace you want ChatGPT to use.

4. Verify the connection

   Ask ChatGPT, "Are you connected to Skillsail?" or "List my Skillsail modules." A working connection confirms access or returns your modules.

Add Skillsail as a custom connector manually

Manual setup requires a ChatGPT plan that supports custom connectors and developer mode. In managed workspaces, an administrator may need to allow custom connectors first.

1. Turn on developer mode

   In ChatGPT, open the settings and look for the connectors area. Depending on your version, it may be called "Connectors", "Apps & Connectors", or similar. Open its advanced options and turn on developer mode.

2. Add Skillsail as a custom connector

   Choose to create or add a connector and enter the Skillsail connection address:

   ChatGPT marks connectors you add yourself as unverified. This notice appears for every custom connector.

3. Sign in and choose your organization

   Sign in with the same Skillsail account you use in the web app, or create a new account in the sign-in window. New accounts get a workspace set up automatically. If your account belongs to more than one organization, choose the workspace you want ChatGPT to use.

4. Verify the connection

   Ask ChatGPT, "Are you connected to Skillsail?" or "List my Skillsail modules." A working connection confirms access or returns your modules.

Install the Skillsail Agent Plugin

Skillsail is also packaged as an Agent Plugin. Clients that support that format — including Cursor, VS Code, and GitHub Copilot — can install it instead of adding the connection address by hand. In ChatGPT, use the plugin listing above rather than this package. The Agent Plugin uses the same Streamable HTTP MCP at https://skillsail.com/mcp. Sign-in happens in the client; the package does not include credentials.

In Cursor, install Skillsail from the Cursor Marketplace once it is listed. Then sign in when Cursor prompts you.

Connect Cursor or another MCP client manually

Use these steps for a client that lets you add an online MCP connection, including Claude if you prefer manual setup over the directory. The exact labels vary, so look for "Connectors", "Tools", "MCP", or a similar settings area.

1. Open the client's connector or MCP settings

   Find the option to add a custom, remote, or online MCP connection.

2. Create the connection

   Skillsail runs online, so there is nothing to install. If the client asks for a connection type, choose Streamable HTTP.

3. Enter the Skillsail connection address

   https://skillsail.com/mcp
   

4. Sign in and choose your organization

   Sign in with the same account you use in the Skillsail web app, or create a new account in the sign-in window. New accounts get a workspace set up automatically. If your account belongs to more than one organization, choose the workspace you want this client to use.

5. Verify the connection

   Ask, "Are you connected to Skillsail?" or "List my Skillsail modules." A working connection confirms access or returns your modules.

Working with multiple organizations

The assistant can only see the organization tied to the sign-in you completed during setup. If you switch organizations later, you may need to reconnect Skillsail in your assistant's settings so it picks up the new workspace.

Data safety

Your connected assistant processes your requests and the information exchanged with Skillsail under that assistant provider's own terms and privacy policy. Do not submit health information, financial account details, government-issued identifiers, account credentials, authentication secrets, or other sensitive or highly regulated data through AI or MCP features.

Test prompts to try once connected

• "List my Skillsail modules."
• "Create a new module called 'First day safety basics'."
• "Open the module called 'Phishing 101' and tell me what slides it has."
