SCORM Package Validator

Test your SCORM, xAPI, or cmi5 package before you upload it to an LMS. Instant results, no signup required, and your file never leaves your browser.

Validation runs entirely in your browser. Your package is never uploaded to a server.

What the validator checks

The same checks an LMS runs when you upload a course, without the upload.
  • Manifest and structure

imsmanifest.xml exists at the ZIP root, is well-formed XML, and defines organizations, items, and resources.

  • Standard detection

Identifies SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI (tincan.xml), and cmi5 packages automatically.

  • Launch file

The course entry point declared in the manifest actually exists in the package.

  • File references

Every file the manifest references is present, including case-sensitivity mismatches that break on Linux LMS servers.

  • Tracking setup

A SCO is defined, so your LMS records completions, scores, and progress.

  • Common LMS gotchas

Nested root folders, backslash paths, oversized packages, and other issues that cause silent import failures.

Frequently asked questions

What is a SCORM package?
A SCORM package is a ZIP file containing eLearning content plus an imsmanifest.xml file that tells a learning management system (LMS) how to launch and track the course. SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 are the most widely supported eLearning standards.
Why does my SCORM course fail to upload to my LMS?
The most common causes are a manifest that is not at the ZIP root (usually caused by zipping the folder instead of its contents), missing files referenced by the manifest, file name case mismatches, and packages that exceed the LMS upload limit. This validator detects all of these.
Is my course content uploaded to your servers?
No. Validation runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your package never leaves your device, which makes the tool safe for confidential training content. We only collect anonymous usage statistics (the validation result, the detected standard, and the authoring tool), never your files or their contents.
Which standards does the validator support?
SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 (3rd and 4th Edition), xAPI packages with a tincan.xml descriptor, and cmi5 packages with a cmi5.xml course structure.
How do I create a SCORM package?
You need an authoring tool that exports LMS-ready packages. Skillsail turns documents, slides, and PDFs into interactive courses with quizzes and translations, and exports them as SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI, or cmi5, ready to upload to any LMS.
How do I test a SCORM package without an LMS?
Drop the ZIP into the validator above. It runs the same structural checks an LMS performs at upload (manifest, launch file, file references) without installing anything or creating an account. For a full playback test including completion tracking, upload the package to a staging LMS or a dedicated SCORM player.
How is this different from SCORM Cloud's testing tool?
SCORM Cloud is excellent for behavioral testing, but its free plan requires an account, is limited to 3 courses, and your package is uploaded to their servers. This checker is unlimited, needs no signup, and validates entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, which matters for confidential training content.
